 Article

Link to my article, “Artificial Intelligence”, which explores the evolution and impact of Artificial Intelligence: From Ancient Myths to Modern Challenges. This comprehensive article delves into the history of AI, its development through three distinct waves, and its ethical implications. Ideal for those interested in the intersections of technology, ethics, and human advancement.

Development Timeline and Selected Milestones

A summary of the three waves of development, and a detailed list of AI Milestones.

Books referenced in Module: “Artificial Intelligence”

An authoritative guide to the history of AI, from the man chosen to give the 2023 Royal Institute Christmas Lectures on “Artificial Intelligence”

A lightweight guide to the topic, written by GPT-4, an AI programme from OpenAI.  Not to be taken too seriously, but an easy read.

A really useful book for non-technical people who want to understand just what the newest generation of AI can and can’t do.

Melanie Mitchell has the ability to present complex subjects simply and straightforwardly, without in any way “dumbing them down”.  Of the guides to what AI is, this is my favourite.

An excellent review of the hidden risks inherent in allowing algorithms to guide our decision-making, if we do not fully appreciate the difference between machine learning and human values.

Four horsemen of the Aocalypse

Published on 7th September 2023, this knowledgeable and controversial book from a prominent AI “insider” points out the risks from AI in the context of the global challenges which the current world order is failing to come to terms with.
